Castle Boardshop

We are just finishing up our final package projects. For this project I created and store identity for a small skate shop uses packaging as a way to promote the shop. I created a logo, and then designed a deck package, wheel package, a bench, storefront, and a magazine ad/flyer.

When I was designing the packaging i was trying to I was trying to create packaging that would serve a different purpose after it was removed. The deck package becomes a small banner for the Board shop, and the wheel package was simply string and a couple buttons that could then be reused.

And when I was designing the store front I wanted to make the sign skate-able as a way to bring the costumers to the store; even if only to skate the sign. I also decided to design a bench because it is also a skate-able object and would be a good and inexpensive way for the board shop to advertise to the right audience. It could be located at a local skate park.

Design is complex

I found this interesting design Quote...
"I didn’t get into design to be an artist. To me, an artist creates things to evoke emotion. Being a designer goes a step further than that, not only trying to evoke emotion but trying to make a reaction. It is very objective-driven, and that’s what makes it interesting."
Mike Davidson

Emotional Purchasing

Quoted from the Package Design Workbook.

"A growing body of consumer-behavior research shows that
people may rationalize buying decisions based on a set of facts,
but they purchase based on feelings. Buying isn't necessarily a
rational decision; it's often an emotional one."

This statement can be true not only for their emotion toward the product itself, but we have been talking about all semester, the packaging alone can trigger an emotional response swaying the costumer to go with one product over another; or even to buy a product they otherwise may not have.

Paper Apple

Well, last week our paper food projects were due in my package design class. There was a wide variety of foods created in the class, I decided to make an apple. I made it in seven parts: six slices and the core. I think the idea behind the project was to get a better understanding of what can be done simply by folding paper. Also, to become more comfortable thinking and designing in 3d space and understanding templates.
